Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to every booking made with Nile Cruising, a tour operator based in Luxor, Egypt. By sending an enquiry or confirming a booking with us, you agree to what is set out below. Please read it before you pay a deposit.

The short version

  • A 25 percent deposit confirms your booking. The balance is paid during the first day of your tour.
  • Cash, bank transfer or card. Card payments carry a 3 percent surcharge.
  • Children under 6 sail free, ages 6 to 11 pay half, from 12 the adult rate applies.
  • If your vessel is withdrawn by its owner, we move you to a boat of the same category at no extra cost.
  • Cancelling is free up to 60 days before departure. The full table is below.

In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Nile Cruising. “You” means the person making the booking and everyone travelling on that booking.

Making a booking

Send us your dates and what you are looking for, by email, WhatsApp or the enquiry form on this website. We will reply with an itinerary and a price. Nothing is confirmed until you accept the quote in writing and we receive your deposit.

Once we confirm your booking you will receive a written confirmation setting out your vessel, cabin category, itinerary, dates and total price. Check it carefully and tell us at once if anything is wrong.

You must be at least 18 years old to make a booking. If you are booking for other people, you are responsible for making sure they know and accept these terms.

Prices

All prices are quoted in US dollars, per person, based on two people sharing a cabin, unless your quote says otherwise. Single travellers pay a single supplement, which we will state in your quote.

The price you are quoted covers the services listed in your written confirmation. Anything not listed is not included. Typical exclusions are international flights, domestic flights, visa fees, travel insurance, drinks and extra meals, optional excursions, personal expenses, and tips.

Prices can change until your booking is confirmed. Once we have confirmed your booking and received your deposit, the price is fixed, except where a government imposes a new or increased tax, entrance fee or fuel surcharge after confirmation. If that happens we will pass on the actual increase only, with evidence, and you may cancel without penalty if the increase exceeds 10 percent of your total price.

Children

Age on the day the tour starts Price
Under 6 Free when sharing the parents’ cabin with no extra bed. One free child per cabin.
6 to 11 50 percent of the adult rate
12 and over Full adult rate

Please tell us each child’s date of birth when you book.

Payment

A deposit of 25 percent of the total price is required to confirm your booking.

The balance of 75 percent is paid during the first day of your tour, at the time and place that suits you best on that day. We will agree the details with you in advance.

You can pay by bank transfer, by card, or in cash. Cash is the simplest option on arrival. Card payments carry a 3 percent surcharge, which covers the fee charged to us by the card processor. Bank transfer and cash carry no surcharge. Any bank charges on a transfer are yours to pay, so please send the full amount net of fees.

If the balance is not paid during the first day of the tour, we may treat the booking as cancelled and the cancellation charges below will apply.

Changes you make

Tell us as early as you can if you need to change your dates, vessel or itinerary. We will do our best to accommodate you. Changes are subject to availability and to any charges passed on by the vessel operator or supplier. Where a change is not possible, it will be treated as a cancellation.

Cancellation by you

Cancellations must be sent to us in writing. The following charges apply, calculated on the total price of your booking:

When you cancel Charge
60 days or more before embarkation No charge
59 to 30 days before embarkation 25 percent of the total
29 to 15 days before embarkation 50 percent of the total
14 to 7 days before embarkation 75 percent of the total
Less than 7 days before embarkation, or no show 100 percent of the total

Different cancellation terms may apply to peak travel periods, including Christmas, New Year and Easter, and to certain departures. Where different terms apply, they will be stated in your written booking confirmation, and that confirmation takes precedence over this page.

If you want to move your dates rather than cancel, tell us more than 30 days before embarkation and we will move the booking to another date at no charge, subject to availability. If the new dates cost more, you pay the difference.

Some costs are paid to other companies in advance and cannot be recovered, most often domestic flights and the flight to Abu Simbel. Where that applies, the amount is charged at cost on top of the figures above, and we will show you exactly what it is.

No cancellation charge applies where unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances at the destination, such as war, epidemic, natural disaster or a sudden change in the law, significantly affect the cruise. In that case everything you have paid is returned to you.

Refunds are made to the card or account you paid from, within 14 days of the cancellation.

Changes or cancellation by us

Nile cruise itineraries depend on river conditions, lock operations, vessel maintenance and decisions taken by the companies that own the vessels. Occasionally a sailing is changed or withdrawn by the owner after your booking is confirmed.

If the vessel you booked becomes unavailable, we will move you to a vessel of the same category at no extra cost to you. If no equivalent vessel is available and you do not wish to accept an alternative, we will refund everything you have paid us.

Minor changes to the order of visits within an itinerary do not entitle you to a refund, provided the sites listed in your confirmation are still visited.

Circumstances beyond our control

We are not liable for failure to provide services, or for changes to them, caused by events outside our reasonable control. These include war, civil unrest, strikes, epidemics, extreme weather, natural disasters, changes in the law, government action, airport or airspace closures, and river closures.

Where such an event prevents your trip going ahead, no cancellation charges will be applied by us, and we will refund what we are able to recover from the vessel operators and other suppliers.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is not a condition of booking with us, but we strongly recommend that you take out a policy that covers medical treatment and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment, and your baggage and personal belongings.

We are not responsible for medical costs, repatriation costs, or losses you incur because you cancelled for personal reasons, and we do not provide insurance cover of any kind.

Passports, visas and health

You are responsible for holding a valid passport, for obtaining any visa required for Egypt, and for meeting any health or vaccination requirements that apply to you. Requirements vary by nationality and change from time to time, so please check with the Egyptian embassy or consulate for your country well before you travel.

We cannot accept responsibility if you are refused entry to Egypt, or are unable to travel, because your documents are not in order. Cancellation charges will apply in that situation.

Your health and fitness to travel

Many of the sites visited on a Nile cruise involve walking on uneven ground, steps, and long periods in the sun. Tell us before you book if anyone on the booking has reduced mobility, a medical condition, or any requirement we should plan for. We will tell you honestly what is and is not workable, and we will do what we reasonably can to accommodate you.

Please also tell us about any food allergies or dietary requirements when you book, so we can pass them to the vessel in advance.

Behaviour on board

Vessels are operated by their owners, and their rules apply on board. If your behaviour causes danger, damage or serious disruption, the vessel’s master may end your stay on board. In that situation we have no liability to you and no refund is due.

Our responsibility to you

We arrange and coordinate your cruise, guides, transfers and excursions. We select our suppliers with care, and we are responsible for arranging the services described in your confirmation.

Vessels, hotels and airlines are operated by independent companies. Where loss or injury arises from the act or omission of one of those companies, or from your own actions, or from an event outside our reasonable control, we are not liable.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, or for fraud.

If something goes wrong

Tell us straight away, while you are still in Egypt. Most problems can be sorted out on the spot, and we are reachable on WhatsApp throughout your trip. If we do not know about a problem at the time, we cannot fix it.

If a matter is not resolved during your trip, write to us at info@nile-cruising.com within 28 days of your return, giving your booking reference and the details. We will respond within 14 days.

Photography

We sometimes take photographs during trips and use them on our website and social media. Tell us if you would prefer not to appear in them, and we will respect that.

Your personal information

We collect and use your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and any dispute will be dealt with by the Egyptian courts.
