About Nile Cruising

A group of tour guides, not a booking office

Guests of Nile Cruising in the forecourt of Edfu temple

We are Egyptology tour guides working out of Luxor, licensed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. In Egypt they call us Egyptologists, and the licence stands for a qualification in the history and the writing on the walls, not a sales course. We are the ones on the field with you, not a voice in an office.

Between us there are years and years on this river, and that is what you are really booking. Whatever comes up on your trip that feels new to you, we have met it before, not ten times but hundreds: a ship that changes its berth, a site that closes for the morning, a queue at the Esna lock, a guest who needs a pharmacy at nine at night. It gets handled, usually before you hear about it.

We know these sites corner by corner. Which wall holds the scene that is worth the extra walk, which tomb is worth the extra ticket on the day you are standing there, where the light falls at Karnak an hour after sunrise. Years of it, handed over to the people who travel with us.

When you write to us you get a person, not a form. Tell us your dates, how many of you there are and roughly what you want to spend, and you get back a short list of the ships that are actually free that week, with what each one costs and what is weak about it as well as what is good.

We do not own any of these ships, and that is on purpose. It means we can tell you when the cheaper boat sailing on your dates is the better one, because we have nothing to protect except your week.

If you want the longer version, how this started and who taught us, it is on our story.

How we work

The rules we work by

Guiding in Egypt is an old profession with its own manners and its own rules. These are the ones we hold ourselves to.

Licensed Egyptologists

Every guide who works with us holds a guiding licence from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, with the study of ancient Egypt behind it.

We explain, we do not sell

A guide is there to make the walls make sense. No commission stops, no shop you did not ask to visit, no pressure at any point of the day.

We travel with you

On almost every sailing your Egyptologist is on board with the group. When a ship has no cabin free we follow it along the river and meet you at every site, and the programme does not change.

Nothing on your trip is new to us

Closures, delays, a change of berth, a problem at two in the morning. We have been through all of it for years, so it stays our problem and not your holiday.

The price you are told is the price

Per person for the whole cruise, with what is included and what is not written down before you pay anything.

You get an answer

Every day, from a person with a name, before you book and while you are here. Ask us anything about the ships, we have stood on most of them.

The guide who started it

Mo Adam

Nile Cruising began with Mo Adam, a licensed Egyptologist from Luxor who has been guiding since 2011, on the cruises between Luxor and Aswan and in the tombs and temples on both banks.

He still guides. Most weeks he is in the Valley of the Kings or at Karnak with a group, which is the reason this site reads the way it does. It is written by people who were standing there last week, not by a marketing department.

You are not really choosing a boat. You are choosing the person who will be standing next to you in the temple.

Tell us your dates

Send us the week you are thinking of and we will tell you honestly what is worth sailing on it, and what is not.
