Day 1Luxor, Karnak and Luxor Temple
  • We meet you at Luxor airport or the station and drive you to the ship.
  • Welcome drink, then settle into your cabin.
  • Lunch on board.
  • Karnak in the afternoon, the largest religious building ever raised and still being added to two thousand years later.
  • Luxor Temple after dark, under the floodlights, which is when it is at its best.
  • Dinner and overnight moored at Luxor.

Day 2The West Bank, then sailing south
  • An early start for the Valley of the Kings while it is still cool.
  • Hatshepsut’s temple at Deir el-Bahari, cut into the cliff.
  • The Colossi of Memnon on the way back to the river.
  • Back on board for lunch, and the ship sails south through the afternoon.
  • Dinner and overnight on the river.

Day 3Edfu and Kom Ombo
  • Edfu Temple in the morning, a short carriage ride up from the mooring. The best preserved temple in Egypt and the only one where you can read the whole building.
  • Back on board and sailing on.
  • Kom Ombo in the late afternoon, when the light is low and the coaches have gone. The double temple is shared between Sobek and Horus and stands a few steps up from the water.
  • Sailing on to Aswan. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 4Aswan
  • Philae Temple on its island, built for Isis and moved stone by stone when the dam was raised, reached by motorboat.
  • The Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarry where it cracked.
  • A felucca around Elephantine Island in the afternoon.
  • Dinner and overnight moored at Aswan.

Day 5Aswan, a free day
  • The ship stays at Aswan and the day is yours.
  • Breakfast late, a swim, and the sun deck while Aswan gets on with its morning.
  • Most people use the day for Abu Simbel instead and are back for a late lunch.
  • Dinner and overnight moored at Aswan.

Day 6A day of sailing
  • Breakfast while the ship is already moving.
  • The green strip and the desert edge going past the other way, villages, water buffalo, children shouting from the bank.
  • Lunch and afternoon tea on deck, the pool and the sun deck to yourselves.
  • Dinner and overnight on the river.

Day 7Sailing into Luxor
  • A last morning on deck as the ship works north through the Esna lock, which is worth being up for.
  • The temples you saw on day one come back into view from the water.
  • We moor at Luxor and the afternoon and evening are yours in town.
